Does anyone remember or have information about a children's serial with the title: "A Pair of Jesus Shoes"
I remember two children being kidnapped by criminals. At one point the criminals manage to convince a couple that they are police officials and it is the kids who are juvenile criminals.
The "Jesus Shoes" of the title refers to a type of cheap sandals worn at the time by children whose parents could not afford shoes.
The original story was a 1969 novel written by Sylvia Sherry and called 'A Pair Of Jesus Boots'. In 1976 it was made by BBC TV as a four part series called 'Rocky O'Rourke' and was set in a run down area of Liverpool where Rocky has two ambitions. The first is to become a professional footballer and failing that..to become a successful criminal. As the leader of a local gang called 'The Cats' he is well on the way to achieving the latter when he becomes entangled in the activities of some real life and dangerous villians. I'm not sure if this is the series you remember, but it is the only one I know of based on a book with an almost identical title.
