Does anyone have any information a short-lived show called Charles Rendel Esquire?
I'm not sure if that's the exact title.
I think it ran on ITV or Channel 4 in the early 1980s.
It was about the adventures of ex-con in a Scottish city. It was an off-beat dramedy with no laugh track.
When it cut to a commercial, it showed a hand tapping the ash off a cigar as the lead character said: "I'm back. I'm really back."
I remember an episode when the lead took over a failing skin magazine and tried to revitalize it with a (rigged) "Spot The Ball" competition.
Does anyone have any information about it. It's driving me nuts!
Charles Endell Esquire was a spin-off of the popular Adam Faith series, 'Budgie'. Unfortunately, it was short lived (only one season) because after the second episode was shown ITV were hit by a lengthy strike. When the series did finally get shown in its entirety it failed to pick up any momentum and the lead actor, Iain Cuthbertson, was committed to other projects.
The show is mentioned in the review of 'Budgie' that I wrote for Television Heaven and can be found here:
I think this is the one your after Charles Endell Esq,it starred Iain Cuthbertson and was a spin off from Adam Faiths series Budgie. see link below...
I have to say OTB I prefered your old logo, but your knowledge has not diminished in any way. I hope very much that we can all do a Dr. Who, travel back in time, forgive and forget all the upset of the last few months, and get back to talking about TV and having some fun. I would submit therefore that you listen to the following and with a great deal of hope we can reclaim the days when we all came on this site, not only daily , but several times daily.
The entire point of this post and the awful sound track that comes with it down to one thing. I want be friends with all the old regular's and get back to how it was three months ago. To post the above sound bite took a manual some 3 inches thick and four hours out of my life. I can only plead that we go back to the old days (and that ain't that long ago) and have some dialgue that is, infofmative, interesting and incorperating all that humourous that was so common. If I can make a complete pratt of myself on this site, I am sure there are folks out there that may consider posting more...
August, September, November and December has came and gone. Lets all just be mates again...
Sex on the television can't hurt anyone... Unless you fall off.
