I just heard that George Sewell had died aged 82. He was known for his countless TV and film appearances but will probably be best known as Alan Craven in Special Branch. He also had regular appearances in UFO and The Detectives. I enjoyed his performance in Man in a Suitcase as a cowardly gangster. He will be missed.
Very sad news indeed, he was equally at home with comedy as he was with drama. I loved him in The Detectives along with Robert Powell and Jasper Carrott and also Home James with Jim Davidson and Harry Towb. Will be sadly missed
I've just finished watching George's performance in a 1960s series caled 'Spindoe' - (recently released by Network video as part of a set with 'Big Breadwinner Hog') and I must say how impressive he was in this series as an ex mercenary turned private eye. George was one of the best in delivering powerful deadpan performances and- as OTB rightly pointed out, was equally accomplished in his delivery of light comedy. A sad loss.
