NBC has reportedly picked up an American version of "Prime Suspect" for the fall lineup. But instead of Helen Mirren (who starred in the UK miniseries about the tough female detective), Maria Bello will star, and the series will be set in New York City. Bad news for "Wonder Woman" fans: A remake of the campy 1970's series (which starred Lynda Carter as the gal in "satin tights...fighting for her rights") is unlikely to make the schedule. Other NBC pilots expected to air this fall: The sitcom "Whitney," starring stand-up comic Whitney Cummings; "Up All Night" with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett as working parents; and a musical drama called "Smash" (based on an idea by Steen Spielberg), about a group of Broadway people who put on a musical about Marilyn Monroe. Debra Messing stars in this one, which was "inspired" by the success of Fox's "Glee." NBC has also reportedly renewed the always on-the-bubble "Chuck" (for at least 13 weeks) and family drama "Parenthood." And over at CBS, word is that so-so sitcom "Rules of Engagement" will return this fall. All the major broadcast networks will announce their 2011-12 schedules next week in New York City.
